As in the case of the fixed footbrace installation, modification of the plastic track is required so as to assure successful bonding into the kayak with the factory supplied screws.
The screw needs to be oriented as seen in the picture. Unfortunately, the head is too large and will not fit in the narrow slot in the bottom of the track. As you can see, this interferes with the operation of the rail.

One solution is to chisel off a bit of the plastic side walls flush to the bottom of the groove so that the flat head is recessed.
Three minutes later.
Now the aluminium rail can slide freely in the plastic track and the threaded stem of the screw protrudes far enough to engage the nut - as it should.
Now the screw is trimmed off and the footbrace can be now affixed. See the next step or a similar procedure for mounting fixed footbraces
