8a. Stem construction - making a deck tip

Click on any image to see the full size version

The sharp curve of the deck tip makes lamination such as the hull stem impractical. Instead, small pine strips simulate the affect.
The next step is to glue on a solid piece of mahogany to match the hull stem band.
Trial and error is the cheap way to do these details or you can do it the easy way with a 'Profile Tracing Gauge' for moldings. Every large lumber yard should have one of these.
A solid piece of mahogany was scribed with the profile gauge and shaped on a beltsander to fit the radius.

The final shape of the tip is left to the artistic imagination.
Finished bow. See details of carry loop installation.
